It’s a great honor and pleasure to announce my charity run at the TCS New York City Marathon on November 3 2019. I will be running to support TCF “The Citizens Foundation” in its cause to provide Quality education for the less privileged.

The global illiteracy crisis is real and will keep on getting worse if we don’t do something about it. About 262 million children and youth all across the world are out of school according to UNESCO Institute for Statistics. Pakistan with a population of 200 Million currently has the 2nd largest population of out of school children in the world. We are talking about 22.8 Million children (aged 5-16) who will never learn to read or write because of their inability to pay for school. In absence of formal education and a nurturing environment these children will fall prey to all sorts of evil.

Education is something I am very passionate about and it’s very close to my heart. I believe by eradicating illiteracy we are directly investing in a better future for all of us. Please donate generously to “The Citizens Foundation” and help transform lives in the most under-served communities of the world. My goal is to raise USD 36,000 to educate 360 children ensuring a brighter future for them and their communities.

The Citizens Foundation is a Not-Profit organization dedicated to providing low cost quality education for the poorest communities in Pakistan. With 1,567 schools across Pakistan, TCF at the moment is providing education to 252,000 children. Nearly half (48%) of TCF students are girls. Eighty-eight percent (88%) of TCF alumni have gone to college and Seventy-one percent (71%) are employed. TCF parents are laborers, blue collar workers, vendors, and agricultural workers coming from all religious and ethnic backgrounds who are typically poor and illiterate. TCF offers their children social mobility with TCF graduates ending up in top tier universities in Pakistan, the United States, and Europe.  500+ girls who have graduated from TCF schools have also come back as teachers and principals often in villages where parents did not traditionally send their girls to school. They represent the first generation of educated girls who can be financially independent and challenge their status in society. New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof profiled one such village, Minhala, in his 2010 story, “A Girl, A School, and Hope.”

TCF uses its schools to deliver other services to the families of its students also. Its UNESCO award-winning female adult literacy program, “Aagahi” (translated as Awareness), teaches mothers and older out-of-school girls to read and write enabling 12,000 women to attain literacy and numeracy every year. Additionally TCF also provides clean drinking water and is setting up women’s vocational training centers in schools. For further information please visit TCF’s official website.
